The world prays within you

This world of blissful surprise,
of ecstatic imaginings of
baby cry and lover’s sigh
and cloud roll into thunderhead
and rain falling on the tongue (and the lips and the teeth)
This world prays within you –
and turns your blood vivid blue as it oxygenates
pulses and electrifies neurons
through synapses
and then releases blood-red rushing
in your ears and your nose, temple bells thrumming.
This world of sky hook and long weight,
of sparrow-hawk and handsaw,
of computer stains and coffee screens,
of stubbed toes and scuffed jeans, this world
prays within you – prays within you.
This world of paper cuts and lemon juice,
of lost lists of things to do, undone.
Undone – everyone,
every undone thing prays for you,
chants hymns of praise and forgetfulness,
sings within you, sings your blood vivid blue,
pulses and electrifies neurons through synapses and liberates and relapses,
sending red blood round rushing,
in-filling, out flushing the wide world of blissful surprise, of ecstatic imagining, this world –
this world prays within you.
